The Half-Shelf is the simplest build in the collection and one of the smartest. Half an oil drum becomes the body, two wooden shelves divide the inside, and a flat back lets it sit right up against the wall. If you build the Coffee Table from the other half of the same drum, you get two finished pieces out of one barrel.

Difficulty: Easy

Budget estimate: Around €80 total — kit, drum, paint, and wood finish.

Time: Around 6–10 hours total. Most builders finish it in a single weekend.

Tools needed: Angle grinder, drill, rivet gun, paint gear (brush, roller, or spray can), sandpaper, screwdriver.

Skills used: Cutting metal with an angle grinder, drilling, riveting, painting, mounting shelves.

Build phases:
- Cut the oil drum in half lengthwise and deburr the edges
- Cut the shelf openings on the curved side
- Clean, prep, and paint the drum
- Sand and finish the wooden shelves and back panel
- Mount the L-brackets and shelves with rivets or screws
- Attach the back panel and apply edge banding to the openings
